Artist’s Statement – Billboards
The conceptual installation "LIC Billboard" displayed in a blighted urban neighborhood contrasts at first glance with the film-stills of wealthy Victorian families, although closer inspection of the of the images reveals empty rooms signifying their financial ruin, which brings to the forefront the dichotomy between the rich and poor, gentrification, and paradoxically coincides with the current financial crisis and the impending decline or closure of the financial gap between the classes. The site chosen is at the center of an island of intersecting roadways, across from Silvercup Film Studio. "Helsinki" again plays with these themes but also becomes a moving film as the stills are viewed from a moving train. Providing entertainment for the passengers.
